Directed Reading
Please prepare for the new year with nonfiction book or two. We will begin 30 minutes of daily directed reading beginning on January 2. You will need your Multnomah County Library card to reserve books online.  Our nonfiction categories for the month of January include: Indigenous Peoples of North and Central America and Green Team topics: botany, place making, aquaponics, energy and waste reduction, permaculture, locavore, vermicomposting, and water. We have books in the classroom if you need more time.

Positive Change Project
Iceberg poster presentations will begin on January 22. Further explanation and examples will be given this week in class. Iceberg posters will include "the what" or "what is seen" above the surface, BOTG's showing patterns and trends, connection circles linking interdependence, causal loops showing both reinforcing and corrective feedback, and finally a ladder of inference exposing mental models.

Green Team Project
Prepare for Wednesday work times. Each group member has work to do and needs additional time to complete tasks, conduct research, and continually improve project design.

Wednesday's group work format:

1. Group planning; listening to everyone, starting small and continuously building on success. Use your connection circle and permaculture principles to keep focused and takes notes. (30 minutes)
2. Work time; "the doing" be safe, slow and steady, "observe thoughtfully rather than labor thoughtlessly."  (60 minutes)
3. Group reflection; reinforcing and corrective feedback. Take notes and assign individual tasks in preparation for the following week. (30 minutes)
